MUTTI’s lockdown diary
During the covid_19 lockdown in 2020 I had a project called Mutti’s lockdown diary. I made one sculpture out of one Mutti tomato can every work day and posted it in on Instagram by lunchtime, i.e. ‘A MUTTI a day keeps the doctor away’.
The sculptures are dealing with the challenges and limitations of motherhood, most of them based on personal experiences and feelings I faced during the lockdown, being stuck at home with my two children and husband, locked up in the domestic heaven called home. Motherhood on steroids! The sculptures are dealing with lockdown related subjects within family structures, communities and society. Families struggling with combining work, homeschooling and running a household, people discovering new hobbies, rising alcohol consumption, masks versus no masks, social distancing etc.
All these observations form the themes of my sculptures. The sculptures’ titles and hashtags on Instagram are used as a commentary. You can find the diary including the commentary on my Instagram.
